The Fight Against Deforestation: House of Baukjen’s Partnership with Canopy

Our Commitment to Life on Land:

House of Baukjen is committed to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 15, also known as “Life on Land”; to protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably managed forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and biodiversity loss.

Over 5 billion trees are cut down every year for paper, packaging and fashion fabrics. The loss of these critical forests puts species, communities and our climate at risk. This is why House of Baukjen has committed to causing zero deforestation across our supply chain.

Our Partnership with Canopy:

House of Baukjen partners with Canopy to revolutionise how fashion can contribute to the preservation of the world’s forests. Canopy is an organisation working with the forest industry’s biggest customers and their suppliers to protect remaining ancient and endangered forests. They secure large-scale forest conservation and transform unsustainable forest product supply chains by engaging business executives as champions for conservation and sustainability.

Through their CanopyStyle initiative, House of Baukjen commits to ensuring that our man-made cellulosic fibres are not sourced from any ancient and endangered forests. We use only viscose that achieves a green shirt rating on Canopy’s Hot Button Report, which assesses fibre producers globally across several criteria focused on forest sourcing impacts. We have eliminated conventional viscose from our supply chain, replaced by EcoVero by Lenzing and other verified sustainable sources.

We are also working to increase our use of recycled fibres that eliminate the need for virgin materials. Our innovative sourcing has better ramifications for biodiversity and the planet.

House of Baukjen is also engaged in Canopy’s Pack4Good program, which works to eliminate the use of Ancient and Endangered Forests in paper packaging supply chains. Through Pack4Good, brands commit to reducing overall packaging materials, increasing the use of recycled content, exploring the use of Next Gen packaging made from agricultural residues like wheat straw, and ensuring that any virgin (forest) paper packaging is FSC certified. All packaging shipped to customers from us is 100% recyclable, and we are continuously working to increase recycled content in our B2B packaging whilst reducing overall packaging volume.

Our commitment to Canopy’s forest conservation initiatives is integral to how we operate. We work closely with our suppliers to ensure these standards are met throughout our supply chain.
